The design of the New Passenger Terminal at Deauville-Saint-Gatien Airport is conceived as an architecture of relationship, capable of interweaving iconic dimension and domestic measure, shaping an innovative and immersive airport experience.
Conceived as the future hub of Normandy, the terminal expresses a dual and complementary identity: compact and essential on the air-side, open and articulated on the land-side, where space expands and welcomes. The architecture takes shape through a layering of built and landscape elements, generating a recognizable landmark and at the same time a hospitable urban microcosm. A fluid system, in continuous dialogue with the landscape and passenger flows, in which movement, light and orientation become an integral part of the experience of space.

Iconic architecture and spatial identity
The New Passenger Terminal – Deauville St-Gatien Airport is defined by a large lightweight canopy that evokes the image of a suspended wing. This synthetic and unified element rises from the ground and opens up to the Norman landscape, capturing light and sky in a dynamic and instantly recognizable form, destined to become the region’s new landmark.
Urban microcosm and human scale
Layering and layer system
On the land-side, the design abandons the idea of a monolithic building to articulate itself in a sequence of rhythmic volumes that build a welcoming, human-scale urban environment. The terminal is configured as a space to be experienced, in which passengers are immersed in fluid scenarios, among views, glimpses and environments suspended under the large roof.
The organization of the terminal is based on three conceptual layers: the iconic roof, the articulated system of volumes, and the connective landscape. This layering generates a complex but legible architectural organism in which each layer contributes to the construction of a coherent and integrated spatial experience.
Continuum between architecture and landscape
Sensory experience and poetic atmosphere
The project develops a strong relationship with the land, transforming itself into an architecture-landscape. The promenade verte – a green path that accompanies passengers from the external access to the heart of the building – translates the dialogue between natural and artificial into habitable form. An approach that responds to the most advanced strategies of biophilic design and environmental quality of infrastructural public spaces, with direct effects on the passenger experience and perception of place.
Reflective surfaces, water mirrors and light geometries amplify spatial perception, modulating light to create an evocative atmosphere. Reflections and light vibrations recall, in an abstract key, the coastal landscapes of Normandy – the waters of the English Channel, the diffuse light of Honfleur – giving passengers an authentic sense of place at the moment of transit. An architecture that is not only traversed: it is inhabited, remembered.
