What is the real meaning of designing an office tower today? The Dome for Womb project stems from this question and proposes a radical answer: not a space to walk through, but a place where it is pleasant to live before it is pleasant to work.
Conceived for Reale Immobili’s restricted competition in Via Tito Speri, in the heart of Porta Nuova, the project reinterprets the tower typology through a double metaphor: the Dome – recalling the iconic verticality of Milan Cathedral – and the Womb, the womb that welcomes, open to the city and the community. No longer a closed and introflexed tower, but a landmark that embraces its context.

A Skyline-Sculpted Form
The tower tapers upward by taking advantage of the 60° slope, transforming a regulatory constraint into an architectural gesture. The silhouette – precious stone with a rough rind to the northwest and a reflective front to the south – dialogues with the vertical emergencies of Porta Nuova and recalls, in verticality and tension, the Gothic spires of the Duomo. Useful height up to 75.6 m, scenic tip up to 118 m.
Concavity as a civic gesture
Work as an experience, not a module
The tower’s two arms delineate a concave central void: an embrace facing the city. The triple-height entrance hall extends the public space within the building, while the inner courtyard visually connects all levels, building an authentic sense of community-in dialogue with the Olivettian tradition of the workspace as a place of civilization.
The offices – 13 levels, floor-to-floor 4.2 m, net height 3 m – are all different in shape and facing. The distribution core is shifted to the perimeter, freeing the heart of the building. Panoramic staircases, relaxation areas overlooking the city, green terraces at every elevation: the work space is never anonymous. The layout is set up forActivity Based Working (ABW), with maximum flexibility for single and multi-tenant.
A vertical forest, a botanical museum
The greenery is not ornamental: it is structural to the identity of the project. The sloping terraces host essences organized by geographic origin, from the lowest floors – Lombard flora – to the summit roof garden, a botanical synthesis of the world. An orchard, a panoramic sky bar, wellness spaces: the tower is also a landscape.
Certified sustainability, measurable well-being
The project aims for dual LEED v4 Platinum and WELL v2 Platinum certification. Photovoltaic facades, ground-source heat pumps, Human Centric Lighting system, radiant panels, rainwater harvesting: each technological choice responds to an integrated vision of energy efficiency, air quality, and occupants’ mental and physical well-being.
