The new welcome pavilion space for the Bambino Gesù Children’s Hospital was created as an intervention to redefine the hospital experience from its most sensitive threshold: waiting.
The design transforms the reception area into a bright, legible environment calibrated to children’s perceptions, where environmental comfort, intuitive orientation and spatial quality help reduce anxiety and foster a sense of trust from the first contact.

Reception as a therapeutic space
The Pavilion redesigns the hospital threshold as an environment that goes beyond the function of an entrance: it is a place that welcomes, guides, and establishes an initial relationship of trust with children and their families.
Spatial concept, materials, and light combine to make the experience reassuring and comfortable from the very first moment.
Formal lightness and spatial perception
The suspended ceiling, designed with thin sections and visual continuity, expresses lightness and dynamism. The dynamic ceiling amplifies light and movement, transforming waiting into a playful and fluid experience, reducing the perception of the environment as a “waiting area” and and redefining it as a space for interaction and connection.
Waiting area as an interior landscape
Organic furnishings, soft surfaces and playful installations help transform waiting into a positive experience. Form and function converge in the construction of an “internal landscape” that places human well-being, especially that of children, at the center of the design.
Technology and construction integration
The Pavilion’s freestanding structure, made of prefabricated elements and steel columns, reduces the impact on existing structures and enables rapid assembly.
Lightweight construction solutions and advanced climate-control technologies ensure long-term environmental comfort and usability for both users and hospital staff.
