The New BEIC is the project for the European Library of Information and Culture in Milan: a place designed as an open threshold on knowledge, where knowledge is offered without barriers, in constant movement.
The library takes shape as an inclusive and living space, capable of dialoguing with the greenery of Porta Vittoria Park and the breath of the city, welcoming its rhythms and transformations. The architecture thus interprets a fluid and progressive knowledge system: a traversable cultural landscape, in which knowledge becomes visible, accessible and walkable in all its dimensions, physical and digital, becoming a new landmark for the community.

Architecture-pathway and urban relationship
The project interprets the library as an architecture-pathway, permeable and relational, connecting urban pathways to the heart of the building. The internal promenade crosses the library longitudinally, articulating two distinct but integrated volumes, and representing the continuum between physical and digital knowledge, between individual and collective experience.
Continuum between architecture and landscape
The library integrates with the Porta Vittoria Park, transforming the urban void into a structuring element of the project. The relationship between indoor and outdoor spaces, between voids and solids, generates a symbolic and permeable urban landmark, evocative of an open book, a metaphor for inclusion, dialogue and shared knowledge.
Universal accessibility and usability
Sustainability and technological innovation
The building is designed to provide access and usability for all users. Ramps, vertical pathways, and staggered platforms create a fluid and exciting experience, combining horizontality and verticality, movement and discovery, with dramatic and immersive public spaces, study areas, workshops, and children’s and youth zones.
The project integrates sustainable and innovative solutions, with efficient energy strategies, durable materials, and technological systems compatible with mechanized storage of library holdings. The library is designed to last, with flexible spaces and facilitated maintenance, in harmony with the surrounding urban and environmental context.
