Campus EIT Ningbo was created as an urban platform dedicated to life sciences research, where architecture and knowledge come together to shape a new innovation landscape.
The master plan interprets the campus as a collaborative city, an open system in which research, technology and environmental sustainability are intertwined with the quality of space and landscape.
The result is an integrated ecosystem designed for the academic community and for ongoing dialogue between science, nature, and everyday life.

Status
Urban archipelago of knowledge
The project is structured as an archipelago of architectural systems surrounded by greenery, inspired by the morphology of Ningbo Bay. Autonomous but interconnected disciplinary cores – the university “craters” – emerge from the landscape, generating a diffuse urbanity model capable of fostering interdisciplinary contamination and scientific cooperation.
Courtyard-buildings as a typological and climatic device
The campus reinterprets the courtyard building typology in a contemporary way, taking it as the spatial and environmental matrix of the project. The introverted configuration allows microclimatic control, optimization of natural lighting and creation of protected spaces for research and academic social interaction.
The courtyard is not just a formal element, but a performance device: it structures relationships between solids and voids, regulates flows, and builds identity and continuity with the Chinese settlement tradition through an updated and technologically advanced architectural syntax.
Urban sustainability Lab
The master plan is conceived as an integrated environmental infrastructure. Climatic and spatial conditions are transformed into design opportunities through passive strategies, water resource management, energy optimization, and material life-cycle considerations. The goal is a near-zero energy campus, oriented toward a carbon-free model.
Collaborative and adaptive platform
The cellular and fluid organization of the urban system generates a flexible environment capable of evolving over time. Research, education, and daily life are integrated into a continuous space in which architecture and landscape build an innovative and resilient urban habitat.
Architecture as an evolving landscape
Forms emerge from the natural processes of the territory: flows, stratifications, interconnections. The campus is configured as a territorial landmark and manifesto of a new relationship between science, environment and architecture.
